Robert Parry 1822-1882

Robert was born 14 October 1822 in Newtown, Montgomeryshire, Wales. He was the eldest son of Sarah Jarrett and Evan Parry, an itinerant Wesleyan Minister whose circuit spread across England and Wales. Robert lived a nomadic lifestyle from an early age with each of his nine siblings being born in different counties across England and Wales. The resilience and self-confidence Robert developed in childhood would sustain him throughout the hardships of his later years.

Robert attended Kingswood Boarding School from 1831 to 1837. Kingswood was established by John Wesley to provide a continuity of education for the sons of his preachers.  Robert studied subjects including Latin, Greek, mathematics, philosophy, chronology and metaphysics.
